Egon Schiele

Schiele, Egon (1890–1918), Austrian artist. A leader of the Austrian expressionists, he was influenced by the French impressionists and by Austrian artist Gustav Klimt. His paintings exhibit decorative qualities and a strong sense of line, but also an eroticism and emotional intensity that the public sometimes found disturbing. He is best known for self-portraits and paintings of nude or partly clothed women.
