Sauk

Sauk, or Sac, Native American tribe of the Algonquian language group. Encountered by the French near Green Bay, Wis. (1667), they later lived along the Mississippi River, hunting and farming. Many took part in the Black Hawk War (1832) rather than move west, but they were eventually resettled in Oklahoma and Iowa.
