Erik Satie

Satie, Erik (Eric Alfred Leslie Satie; 1866–1925), French composer and pianist. Satie was the philosophical leader of “Les Six,” a group of French composers including Darius Milhaud, Arthur Honneger, and Francis Poulenc who rejected the impressionist style of Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. He was deliberately eccentric, rejecting convention and popular acceptance. He best-known works include the ballet Parade (1917) and pieces for solo piano. His Gymnopédies (1888) for solo piano were made famous in their orchestrated version by Debussy.
