Sapodilla



Sapodilla, evergreen tree (Achras zapota) found in tropical America; also, the fruit of the tree. The bark and fruits contain a milky latex (chicle) that is collected in Central America to provide the raw material for chewing gum. When ripe, the flesh of the fruit is brown and has the consistency of a pear.
