Samson



Samson, in the Bible, hero in ancient Israel known for his extraordinary strength, which came from his long hair. During Israel's war with the Philistines, Samson killed a thousand Philistines with the jawbone of an ass. His love for a Philistine woman, Delilah, became his downfall when she learned the secret of his strength and cut his hair as he slept. Samson was captured and imprisoned. When his hair grew back, he tore down the pillars of the temple, killing both himself and the Philistines inside.
