Samaritans

Samaritans, members of a religious sect residing in the ancient district of Samaria, central Palestine. Originally non-Jewish colonists from Assyria, the Samaritans intermarried with the Israelites and accepted the Jewish Torah. However, they were not socially accepted—hence the significance of the Good Samaritan in Luke's Gospel.
