Saltpeter



Saltpeter, or potassium nitrate (KNO3), chemical compound occurring as a colorless crystal or white powder. It is found in limestone caves or can be produced by combining potassium chloride with sodium nitrate. It is used for explosives, matches, fertilizer, and to preserve food.
