Salmonellosis



Salmonellosis, common type of food poisoning caused by the Salmonella bacteria. Poultry, milk, eggs, and egg products often carry the bacteria. Salmonellosis is usually confined to the intestines, where it causes nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and fever. Treatment includes rest, replacement of body fluids and, in severe cases, the use of antibiotics.
