Arthur Saint Clair



Saint Clair, Arthur (1743–1818), U. S. soldier and politician. He served in the Revolutionary War and in 1787 became president of the Continental Congress, then first governor of the Northwest Territory (1787–1802). His military career ended with defeat by Native American tribes in 1792. Unpopular as governor, he was removed from office in 1802.
