Dean Rusk



Rusk, Dean (1909–94), U.S. politician and educator. He was secretary of state (1961–69) in both the Kennedy and Johnson administrations, and he was outspoken against the Vietnam War. Serving the state department, he worked for the United Nations and the implementation of both the Marshall Plan and North Atlantic Treaty Organization after World War II. As an educator he has served as president of the Rockefeller Foundation (1952), a “distinguished fellow” at that same institution, and as professor of law at the University of Georgia since 1970.
