Rumba

Rumba, or rhumba, ballroom dance of Afro-Cuban origin popular in the 1930s and 1940s. The dancers take 3 steps to each bar, 2 fast side steps and 1 slow forward step in 4/4 time. The rumba is noted for the dancers' side-to-side hip motions with the torso erect and the knees relaxed. Rumba music is performed chiefly with percussion instruments.
