Rottweiler

Rottweiler, large work dog, ancestor to the Doberman pinscher. This strong, muscular dog stands up to 27 in (69 cm) at the shoulder and weighs up to 90 lb (41k). It is a short-haired black dog with brown markings at the legs, chest, neck, and face. In Roman times, these dogs guarded herds for the army; in medieval times, they served as guard dogs. They are named for the German town, Rottweil, in which they were developed as a breed.
