Roberto Rossellini



Rossellini, Roberto (1906–77), Italian film director. His Open City (1945), partly made up of footage of the Italian resistance during World War II, established him as a leader of the neorealist movement. Among his other films are General della Rovere (1959), The Rise of Louis XIV (1966), and Socrates (1970).
