Rosh Ha-Shanah



Rosh Ha-Shanah (Hebrew, “head of the year”), Jewish New Year, observed on the 1st and 2nd days of the 7th Jewish month, Tishri (Sept.–Oct.). It is considered the Day of Judgment, when each person's fate is inscribed in the Book of Life. On Rosh Hashanah the shofar (ram's horn) calls Jews to 10 days of penitence ending with Yom Kippur.
