Eleanor Roosevelt



Roosevelt, Eleanor (1884–1962), U.S. humanitarian, wife of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and niece of Theodore Roosevelt. Active in politics and social issues (notably for women and minority groups), she was a UN delegate (1945–53, 1961) and coauthored the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Her many books include This Is My Story (1937) and On My Own (1958).
