Rook

Rook (Corvus frugilegus), European bird in the crow family. The rook is about 18 in (45 cm) long. A purple gloss on the black back, white skin next to the bill, and gray to white feathers on the face of an adult are its distinguishing features. It eats insects, worms, and grain. Some rooks native to Europe do not migrate while others in more northern locations migrate south in winter. Rookeries are enormous groupings of rooks—often in the hundreds—that gather during the mating season.
