Roland de la Platière



Roland de la Platière, husband and wife French revolutionaries. Marie Jeanne Roland de la Platière (1754–93) was hostess and adviser to the Girondists. Madame Roland, as she was known, became involved in a power struggle between the Girondists and the Jacobins, for which she and other leaders of the Girondists were arrested and sent to the guillotine. Jean Marie Roland de la Platière (1734–93) was leader of the Girondists (1791) and minister of the interior (1792–93). He committed suicide on hearing of the execution of his wife.
