Knute Kenneth Rockne



Rockne, Knute Kenneth (1888–1931), U.S. football coach. Known for his inspirational talks, and use of great speed and variety on the field, Rockne helped make football a more entertaining sport. While coaching for Notre Dame (1918–30) he achieved a record of 105 wins, 12 losses, and 5 ties, giving him a winning percentage (.881) that is the best in college football history.
