Jacob August Riis

Riis, Jacob August (1849–1914), U.S. journalist and social reformer whose book How the Other Half Lives (1890) drew attention to slum conditions in New York City. He worked as a police reporter on the New York Tribune (1877–88) and the New York Evening Sun (1888–99).
