Matthew Bunker Ridgway



Ridgway, Matthew Bunker (1895–1985), U.S. military leader. During World War II he led the first full-scale U.S. airborne attack in the invasion of Sicily (1943) and took part in the invasion of France (1944). He became commander of the United Nations forces in Korea (1951), supreme commander of NATO Allied Forces in Europe (1952–53), and U.S. army chief of staff (1953–55).
