Hyman George Rickover



Rickover, Hyman George (1900–86), Russian-born U.S. admiral who brought nuclear power to the U.S. Navy. Head of the navy's electrical division in World War II, he moved to the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) in 1947 and developed the first nuclear-powered submarine, the Nautilus (1954). He attained the rank of full admiral at the age of 73 and retired in 1982.
