Richland



Richland (pop. 33,578), city in Washington and site of the U.S. Department of Energy's Hanford Atomic Energy Plant. The city's population increased dramatically as a result of The Hanford Project, created during World War II to develop nuclear weapons. In addition to the plant, economic activity also includes farming and ranching.
