Richelieu River



Richelieu River, river in Quebec known for its scenic beauty. It was named after Cardinal de Richelieu, prime minister of France under Louis XIII. It rises from Lake Champlain near the Vermont border and it flows about 80 mi (130 km) northward to meet the St. Lawrence River. It is used for boating and as a transportation link between New York City and Montreal.
