Richards, Ivor Armstrong (1893–1979), English literary critic. He developed with C. K. Ogden the concept of Basic English, a primary vocabulary of 850 words. His books include The Meaning of Meaning (with Ogden, 1923) and Principles of Literary Criticism (1924).
