Maurice Richard



Richard, Maurice (1921– ), Canadian-born hockey player. Known for his fast skating and blistering shots, “The Rocket” was the first National Hockey League (NHL) player to score 50 goals in a 50-game season. Richard, named the NHL's most value player in 1947, played right wing for the Montreal Canadiens (1942–1960) and led them to 8 Stanley Cup championships (1944, 46, 53, 56–60). He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1961.
