Rice, Elmer (1892–1967), U.S. dramatist. His plays on social themes include The Adding Machine (1923), an expressionist fantasy; Street Scene (1929), a Pulitzer Prize-winning portrait of life in a tenement; and the romantic comedy Dream Girl (1945).
