Rhodes



Rhodes, or Ródhos, Greek island covering 540 sq mi (1,399 sq km), off the southwest coast of Turkey. The capital city is also called Rhodes. The island's exports include wine, fruit, and olive oil; tourism is its main industry. Rhodes was a prosperous city-state in the 3rd century B.C. At the harbor stood the Colossus of Rhodes, a statue that was one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world.
