Resorcinol

Resorcinol (C6H4[OH]2), compound used to manufacture resins, dyes, medical products, and other chemical compounds. A phenol, it is produced by fusing benzenedisulfonic acid with sodium hydroxide (caustic soda). A key agent in commercial skin-treatment products, resorcinol is often added to external skin-treatment lotions and ointments and is an effective antibacterial, antifungal treatment. Dermatologists use it to treat acne and eczema. Resorcinol is also used to make eosin, a dye used in red ink, and is useful in photographic developers.
