Pierre Auguste Renoir

Renoir, Pierre Auguste (1841–1919), French Impressionist painter. He started painting—with Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, and Alfred Sisley—scenes of Parisian life, such as La Grenouillère (1869) and The Swing (1876), using vibrant luminous colors. Later he became mostly interested in figure painting, usually large female nudes set in rich landscapes. One of his best-known works is Luncheon of the Boating Party (1881).
