Reno

Reno (pop. 110,000), second-largest city in Nevada and a major resort and gambling center. Situated on the Truckee River, 14 mi (22.5 km) from the California state line, the city was founded in 1868 and incorporated in 1879. Legalized gambling in Nevada brings thousands of tourists to Reno every year, and liberal Nevada laws on divorce have also made Reno a well-known divorce center. The main campus of the University of Nevada is located on hills overlooking the city. Not far from Reno are Lake Tahoe and a number of other noted recreation areas.
