Marcus Atilius Regulus



Regulus, Marcus Atilius (d. c.249 B.C.), roman general captured in the first Punic War (255 B.C.). He was sent to Rome to deliver Carthage's peace terms, under parole to return if they were rejected. He nevertheless urged their rejection, returned, and was apparently tortured to death.
