Redstart, bird (Setophaga ruticilla) of the wood warbler family. Adult males have black plumage with brilliant orange-red or salmon-red streaks; females and young birds are brown and dull yellow. Eggs, usually laid in groups of 4 or 5, are creamy white with reddish-brown markings. Redstarts' diets consist mostly of insects.
