Rationing

Rationing, method by which distribution of food and other important products are controlled. Governments usually impose rationing policies in times of large demand and short supply, such as war or severe inflation. Rationing was used in the United States, among other countries, during World War II. Coupons or a point system are allocated to families to obtain rationed products. Rationed products bought outside of the rationing system are considered black market products.
