Rastafarians

Rastafarians, world-wide religious group founded in Jamaica in the 1920s. Its original members, of African descent, believed that Haile Selassie (Ras Tafari)—who ruled Ethiopia 1916–74—was a messiah who would return all African descendants to the continent of Africa. Reggae music and hair worn in dreadlocks (long ropes of curls) are part of Rastafarian culture.
