Radicalism

Radicalism, political philosophy whose purpose is to root out economic, political, and social injustices. Radicals may support different causes in different societies at different times. An English radical reform movement in the 18th to 19th centuries called Radicalism or Utilitarianism supported suffrage and greater democracy. In the 20th century, prodemocracy movements in Communist countries and procommunist movements under non-communist governments are referred to as groups based on radicalism. Official radical political parties exist in some countries, but not the United States.
