Raccoon



Raccoon, stout, bearlike, nocturnal mammal (genus Procyon), with a distinctive black mask and five to eight black bands on the bushy tail. Raccoons are found in North and South America. They live in trees, alone or in small family groups, descending at night to forage for crayfish, frogs, and fish in shallow pools.
