Quicksand

Quicksand, sand saturated with water to form a sand-water suspension possessing the characteristics of a liquid. Quicksands may form at river-mouths or on sandflats; they are dangerous because they appear identical to adjacent sand. In fact, the density of the suspension is less than that of the human body, so a person who does not struggle may escape being engulfed.
