Quechua



Quechua, also Kechua or Quichua, linguistic family belonging to natives of South America. They were once part of the Inca Empire and now live mostly as peasants in the Andean highlands from Colombia to North Chile. Quechua is also the name of the family to which the official language of the Incas belonged; some 28 languages of the family are still spoken.
