Battle of Quebec



Quebec, Battle of, most important battle of the French and Indian War, whose outcome transferred control of Canada from France to Britain. French troops under General Louis Joseph de Montcalm were defending Quebec City. On the night of Sept. 12, 1759, British troops under General James Wolfe silently scaled the cliffs west of the city to the Plains of Abraham. After a short, bloody battle the French fled. Both Wolfe and Montcalm were mortally wounded.
