Benjamin Arthur Quarles



Quarles, Benjamin Arthur (1904– ), U.S. historian, teacher and writer of the impact of African-American culture on U.S. history. Quarles was professor (1939) and dean (1945–53) at Dillard Univ., and headed the department of history at Morgan State College (1953–74). His writings include Frederick Douglass (1948), The Negro in the Civil War (1953), The Negro in the American Revolution (1961), and The Negro in the Making of America (1964).
