Giacomo Puccini

Puccini, Giacomo (1858–1924), Italian opera composer. His first international success, Manon Lescaut (1893), was followed by La Bohème (1896), Tosca (1900), Madama Butterfly (1904), and Turandot (uncompleted at Puccini's death, produced 1926). A lyric style and strong orchestration are characteristic of his operas, which have great dramatic and emotional power. Puccini's works are among the most popular in the operatic repertoire.
