Ptarmigan

Ptarmigan, any of several birds of the grouse family that can be identified by their white wings and underparts. The willow ptarmigan and rock ptarmigan live in Arctic regions, while the white-tailed ptarmigan is found above the treeline of the Rocky Mountains. Ptarmigans turn white in winter. They have feathered toes that act as snowshoes, and they can burrow under snow for food.
