Prophylaxis

Prophylaxis, general term for the prevention of diseases. This is most often done through preventative treatments given prior to a person's contracting a disease. Vaccinations are a form of prophylaxis that build up immunities within the human body against certain types of disorders. Pasteurization of milk and milk products is another form of prophylaxis, as is proper sanitation on a community-wide scale.
