Proboscis monkey



Proboscis monkey, large monkey (Nasalis larvatus) native to Borneo. They are herbivores (plant eaters), feeding on leaves that they shred easily with well-developed back teeth. Males may weigh up to 52 lb (24 kg) and females about half that. They stand about 21–30 in (53–76 cm) tall and live in trees near rivers, which they swim easily.
