Miguel Primo de Rivera



Primo de Rivera, Miguel (1870–1930), Spanish general and politician. Supported by King Alfonso XIII, he overthrew the government in 1923 and became dictator. Popular discontent, economic failure, and loss of army support forced him to resign in 1930. His son, José Antonio Primo de Rivera, founded the Falanga (a Fascist political party) and was executed by Loyalists (republicans) in 1936.
