André Previn



Previn, André (1929- ), German-born U.S. musician. Originally an adapter of stage musicals for the screen, he won Academy Awards for his arrangements in the films Kiss Me Kate (1953) and Gigi (1958). As a jazz pianist he made several successful recordings and is also a classical composer and pianist. Principally a symphony conductor since 1960, he has led seasons of the Houston Symphony, the London Symphony, and the Pittsburgh Symphony, recording widely as well.
