Port Sudan



Port Sudan (pop. 206,700), chief port city of Sudan. It is on the Red Sea and was built between 1905 and 1909 to replace an earlier Arab port that became choked off by coral reefs. With modern harbor facilities, Port Sudan handles most of the nation's overseas trade and is the fourth largest city in Sudan.
