Pompano



Pompano, any of several saltwater fishes belonging to the jack family. Found in warm waters throughout the world, the pompano is valuable as a delicious food fish. Pompanos vary in size, shape, and color, depending on the species. The size range is 1 ft to 3 ft (46 cm to 114 cm); the weight range is from 3 lbs to 50 lbs (1.4 kg to 23 kg). Some of the species found along the Atlantic coast include the common pompano, the great pompano, and the palometa.
