Pomerania



Pomerania, region in north-central Europe, south of the Baltic Sea. The greater part of Pomerania lies in Poland; the rest lies in Germany. Pomerania is mostly made up of fertile lowlands. Agriculture is the main occupation. Industries in the area include the manufacture of metals, ships, and paper. Pomerania was first settled as early as A.D. 100 by Germanic tribes. It has been occupied and governed by Slavs, Germans, Prussians, and Swedes. After World War II, it was divided between Germany and Poland.
