Polytheism

Polytheism, belief in many gods, as opposed to monotheism or dualism; characteristic of most religions, notably Hinduism and Greek and Roman religion. It may arise from the personification of forces worshiped at a more primitive level in animism. One god may dominate the others (e.g., Zeus); sometimes a supreme being is recognized, transcending the gods.
